Quick-Review: Chess Tactics for Kids
This book is written as a complementary sequel to Chandler's
previous book "How to Beat Your Dad at Chess" which
covered checkmating patterns. During the last year I have seen a
good deal of these books which covers tactics in one book and
checkmates in another. All books are well written, and I also like
this one which main readership are beginners who like to learn about
frequently-occurring tactical ideas. The books subtitle is "50
Tricky Tactics", and this is pretty much what you can find in
the book! The book has 50 chapters where Chandler presents motifs
like e.g. Queen Forks, Pins, The Kamikaze Queen and The Rook Endgame
Skewer. Each chapter has 2 pages where the first explains about the
tactic, and at the second page you can find 4 examples with this
motif.

Chapter 35 "The Rook Endgame Skewer"
You can see an excerpt from chapter 35 "The Rook Endgame
Skewer" above, and this can you an idea about the level of
the book. The book are easy to read and it is written for beginners
although you at the backcover can read that "Advanced
players will delight in many devious middlegame tricks....".
At the end of the book there are two chapters with testpositions and
solutions. I like the book and Chandlers explanation to each motif,
and with its hardcover and low price I can warmly recommend it. The
book is off course mainly written for kids but everybody who needs a
first guide to chess tactics can benefit from reading it. Also
recommended to chess instructors who needs easy to use material.
